Sustainability in Fitness: Setting Realistic Goals

Tommy loved lifting weights, but he often pushed himself too hard. He wanted to lift as much as the biggest kids in his class, even though he wasn’t ready. After a few weeks of overdoing it, he started to feel tired and sore. One day, his coach saw Tommy struggling and said, “Tommy, we need to set some realistic goals.” Tommy was confused. The coach explained, “Instead of trying to lift heavy weights right away, let’s set smaller, achievable goals. That way, you can build strength without hurting yourself.” Tommy listened carefully as the coach helped him set goals that were challenging but still possible. He focused on small improvements each week. Over time, Tommy’s strength grew steadily, and he felt proud of his progress. He learned that it wasn’t about pushing too hard too fast—it was about finding balance. Tommy realized that sustainable fitness meant setting goals he could reach and enjoying the journey. He felt happier and healthier, knowing that slow and steady wins the race.
